Appointed Academy Committee governor
Reason I became a governor.
I became a Governor to support Hillocks along its journey over the past few years in order to ensure maximum opportunity for the children and support the staff to provide the best teaching and learning.
How did you find out about the role?
I heard about the vacancy through the school newsletter and following a conversation with the then Chair of Governors about the skills they were looking for on the Governing Body.
What do you like about the role?
I am a practicing Registered Nurse and work as a Deputy Director for the NHS along with being an Independent Advisor to the Parliamentary Health Service Ombudsman and member of the Fitness to Practice Committee for the Nursing & Midwifery Council. It is this wide ranging experience that I wanted to bring and share with Hillocks in order to ensure a diverse and varied governor group. I enjoy being able to use my skills within a different area whilst continuing to develop and challenging myself. Governors are a key role in school improvement and development, undertaking the role of critical friend to the school and senior teaching team. Equally Governors are able to provide the local voice and support the schools providing a level of community voice.
